Learning to program is the goal of millions of people around the world, some to find work in the industry and others to simply learn new skills without a job goal.
In addition to the regulated route of higher education, there are many possibilities to do it in all kinds of formats and platforms. For example, there are courses to learn programming on websites like Udemy, although there are many other platforms in the programming industry as well.
edX is the best known of them all. It is promoted by MIT and is aimed at training for educational institutions such as universities and also for companies. from all over the world, not so much to individuals.
Several universities are present, such as MIT itself, Harvard or Caltech. There are also some Spanish who upload their courses in English and Spanish.
Best of all is that many of these courses are available for free and come with a certificate of completionsomething you can add to LinkedIn to improve the visibility of your profile.
We have divided them into the following three categories.
- Spanish courses
- English lessons

Spanish courses
In edX there are courses in Spanish to learn programming, many, especially from Spanish universities such as the Polytechnic University of Valencia, one of the most active. There is also the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
That said, thanks to the rise of Spanish in the United States, there are more and more universities and institutions in that country that are sharing content in our language.
We’ve picked some that we find most interesting in edX in Spanish:
English lessons
As is completely predictable, both the amount and variety of courses are much greater in English, with more diverse topics, both for beginners in programming and for intermediate or advanced users.
There’s everything from courses for taking your first steps in a number of popular languages to managing libraries and associated tools.
They are courses from universities, technological institutes and companies such as IBM (very active in edX) and Microsoft.
Highest Level University Courses
The main attraction of edX, which makes it a better option than other online education platforms, is the world’s leading universities and institutions. For example, some universities of the Ivy League of the United States or technological institutes of leading countries such as Switzerland, Israel or China.
They all share their courses (free or paid) on this platform and also have some postgraduate and master degrees available at slightly more expensive prices.
In the field of computer science, especially what has to do with programming, there is a wide variety of courses from all these institutions.
