Kingston Technology Company, a global leader in memory products and technology solutions, today announced that TrendForce has named it the number one third-party SSD vendor in the channel for all of 2021. According to TrendForce, Kingston delivered a whopping 26% of the 127 million units sold in 2021 .
While the pandemic continued to disrupt the supply of SSD components in 2021, sales through global distribution channels grew at an annual rate of 11%. While demand for production increased, sales volume suffered from the limited supply of wafers, which prevented timely order fulfillment. In response, Kingston pursued a strategy of limited supply as prices rose. Kingston’s global strategy to source components placed Kingston above the competition.
The results confirm Kingston’s position as the undisputed leader in SSD manufacturing, with the second largest supplier accounting for just 8% of the channel market. As a general category, third-party (non-semiconductor) SSD vendors accounted for 58% of all sales in 2021. Growing demand for PCIe 4.0 NVMe gaming SSDs continues to shape the market landscape, with a shift from SATA to PCIe modules.
TrendForce predicts that the delivery of updates will certainly improve brand recognition and continue to drive sales. In 2021, Kingston added two PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs to its portfolio, as well as the KC3000 and Kingston FURY Renegade SSDs. High-performance drives have joined the SSD family for Kingston customers who demand speed and reliability for gaming and application workloads on desktops and laptops. According to TrendForce, price, availability and the ability to offer global manufacturing and comprehensive sales services will be an important factor in continuing to increase PCIe SSD sales in the future.
Kingston Technology’s presence is largely due to its strong relationships with customers and channel partners around the world. As the health crisis spread around the world and companies quickly adapted, Kingston continued to provide world-class sales support and access to its engineers and product experts, embodying the “Kingston is with you” attitude that has led to more than three successful decades of reliability and customer support. Kingston’s number one position in the SSD market is not surprising, as the same strategy in the DRAM division has seen the company become the largest third-party memory module supplier for the 19th consecutive year.
“It is an honor to achieve this leadership ranking as Kingston celebrates its 35th anniversary,” said Keith Schimmenti, SSD business manager at Kingston. “From the outset, Kingston’s focus and strength has been on selling to customers and channel partners around the world. Together, these successful relationships have helped our SSD business grow rapidly. TrendForce’s most recent results recognize these efforts, so we certainly share this victory with them.”
