The race for foldable smartphones has started in Asia, so it is inevitable that all Asian companies will launch one. Apple and Google, we’ll see…
This week will be foldable smartphones. On Wednesday, Samsung presented the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. Yesterday, the Motorola RAZR 2022 and the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 arrived.
This new type of mobile has passed the experimentation phase and the new generation is already offering us Reliable, practical foldable smartphones with a good user experience.
Sooner or later, all smartphone companies are going to launch their own foldable mobile. The founder and CEO of OnePlus, pete laudidn’t want to stay in the background this week and confirmed on Twitter that they are already preparing their own preparations foldable oneplus mobile:
What we see here is the folding screen hinge mechanism, with which OnePlus collaborates. We don’t know if it’s a prototype or the final version.
From the angle of the fold and the camera shot, it’s hard to tell if it’s about you. a folding clamshell like the Galaxy Z Flip 4, or book type like the Galaxy Fold 4. The photo on the left resembles the former and the one on the right resembles the latter. OnePlus may be working on both versions. At the moment everything is speculation.
With mobile phone sales stagnating, even plummeting like in China, manufacturers are desperate for new motivations to invite users to mobile change. Aspects such as cameras, power or autonomy are no longer that, so the next Holy Grail is called foldable mobiles.
But for now, they represent two major barriers. The first is that they are very spectacular smartphones, but a bit thick when folded. Xiaomi has started to solve this with its extra slim MIX Fold 2. When folded, it is only 11 mm thick, just like a standard mobile phone with a case. That’s the way.
The second handicap is the price. Foldable smartphones are expensive to make because the screen is larger, 8 inches or more, and it is also foldable. And the hinge, and all the associated technology to fold and protect the screen, doesn’t come cheap. Most also have a second screen. So It will be a while before foldable mobile phones cost 200 or 300 euros.
Finally, it is necessary to excite the users. At the moment, the foldable mobiles do not attract too much attention. Probably because of the two handicaps mentioned above.
Are we facing the next bombardment of telephony, or will it remain in a niche market?
