Tokyo Game Show 2022: All the News

First of all and for those who don’t know it: the Tokyo Game Show, also called TGS, is one of the largest video game fairs in Asia and the largest in Japan. Despite its name, it takes place in the city of Chiba, and more specifically at the Makuhari Messe convention center.

Traditionally, the event is dominated by novelties developed by studios from that country, who do not play in vain at home, but their biggest hits have long been for the international market as well. In addition, and given the need to reach a greater number of players, it is very common for major releases to have a computer versionsomething that was not common in the beginning.

As with other major industry events, the Tokyo Game Show takes place more or less simultaneously or in sync with events from some of the participating companies, which later showcase the novelties that will be independently unveiled at the fair. This is the case, for example, with Rise of the Roninwhich was first unveiled during Sony’s State of Play.

Normally this fair is held in September, although there was initially a TGS in the spring and one in the fall. This year’s Tokyo Game Show 2022 was developed between September 15 and 18. The first two days were exclusively for companies (including specialist press) and the rest for the general public, who have come closer to having a first contact with what will be some of the most famous releases of what is left in 2022 and early next year.

Due to its location in the calendar, the TGS is the last major video game event to take place each year.

Few things are more Japanese than manga and turn-based RPGs. One Piece Odyssey combines both things with a new adventure that, as announced in this edition, will finally hit PC in January next year. Like a Dragon 8: Kazuma Kiryu is the third game in the series that Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are working on. JRPG aficionados couldn’t be happier this year. To the plethora of releases already known and given an availability date at the Tokyo Game Show, a new trailer for Eiyuden Chronicle: One Hundred Heroesa role-playing game developed by veterans of the legendary saga Suikoden. In this title with a classic twist, we will experience all kinds of adventures on the continent of Allraan, where the Galdean Empire roams freely thanks to the domain of runic lenses. But that stability is more fragile than it seems, and we’ll see when the game goes on sale in 2023.

Although it was already known before, Team Ninja took advantage of the Tokyo Game Show to publish a new trailer featuring the demo of Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyan action-packed game, available for PC in 2023 and inspired by Chinese mythology to weave a dark story that will gradually reveal itself to the player through a progress based on the management of a system of morale and strength. Swords, blood and gruesome creatures in another modern classic from Team Ninja.
